2 weeks ago I sent this solution out to a number of Government offices
and I think it must have been heard and I may have got their attention.
The next day BP was on the seafloor to make a feeble practice attempt to
remove a bolt on one of the flanges that was on the seafloor. This was a
charade. I watched for 2 hours as they tried to get a socket on an
impact wrench that was obviously too small. Then I did not see what they
did to get it on but then the impact wrench did not have the power to
budge the bolt. Honestly to me it did not look like they tried. I
believe that the President or someone took this solution directly to BP
and BP wanted this to fail... They don't want this stopped. So after that
charade I am sure they told the Government that "see it won't work". After
I saw this I was irritated so I spent five minutes on Google to find a
hydraulic torque wrench and came up with more than 5 companies that make
a wrench specifically for this job. I sent links to all that I found.
What do you know, the next day they were down there again with one of
the wrenches that I said and low and behold the bolt came out. The tool
that I have in the detail below is better than the one that they used.
Anyway after that attempt I have not seen nor heard about the attempt
below but is the best option that I see. I would talk to ANYONE that can
come up with a reason why this won't work. The solution is simple and
again I am sure now BP is aware and it goes to prove that BP does not
want this oil to stop flowing. I can come to no other conclusion that we
are under a Terrorist Attack!
I don't get it all but the evidence mounts more and more each day.
I can go on about that another time but I think this needs to get out so
people can see the simplicity and merit that this has if they would quit
with all other attempt that they set up for failure.
FIX THE LEAK 100% WITH OFF THE SHELF PARTS
STEP BY STEP
1) Remove flange with this riser tool
http://www.francistorque.com/rt_series.html This is a better
tool than the one they used on 6/10/10 as it has the most torque and a
feature that sets the wrench in speed mode when there is less torque
required.
2) Make up: 21inch flange then gate valve then another 21 inch flange
with a male deepwater collet connector from Cameron like this or similar
http://www.c-a-m.com/content/products/product_detail.cfm?pid=2809&bunit=dps
3) Mount new valve system to flange on top of BOP
There are a number of ways to do this and I am sure that the best minds
are aware of many techniques, methods and tools to do this with fluid at
full pressure.
I believe that Cameron, Oceaneering, Oil States all have guides and
other tools to help make this connection.
Another option that Red Adair has used was to put one bolt in the flange
and then rotate the flange into place. Might not be the best method here
but could have some merit.
Another method may be with a guide welded to the bottom of the new valve
system and stab onto it then bolt in place. Even possible to insert a
guide pin in the extra holes available now for the unused Choke and Kill
lines.
More complex solution below because they would have to be modified and
may be more cumbersome.
using something similar to this from Cameron the Cameron vertical
connector
http://www.c-a-m.com/content/products/product_detail.cfm?pid=2849&bunit=SUB
or a Remote Clamp Connector Like this from Oceaneering
http://www.oceaneering.com/subsea-products/pipeline-repair-systems/diverless-connection-and-repiarsystems/
4) Now you can take the female Diverless collet connector attached to
the 21 inch riser to the drill ship and connect this to the top of the
New valve system.
Now when done
1,The connection should be 100% leak free.
2,You can throttle the flow with the valve if need be or desired, maybe
in another top kill event if that is even in the cards(doubt it).
3, With the Collet Connector you can easily disconnect in the event of a
Hurricane.
4, This can be built rapidly with off the shelf part from your local off
shore oil improvement stores.
5, If you have a problem with installation I am sure that their customer
service dept will be glad to help.
PLEASE GET THIS TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE!!!!
